Arson at a house in Larnaca: significant damage, investigation launched

A fire broke out at a residential property in the Ayia Anargyri area of Larnaca and, according to preliminary information, was caused deliberately.

The fire was reported on the morning of 31 July. Two fire engines arrived at the scene, and the blaze was brought under control after approximately half an hour.

No one was inside the house at the time of the fire, and there were no injuries. However, the blaze seriously damaged the living room and the belongings inside it, as well as the electrical wiring and wall finishes.

According to preliminary information, the fire may have been the result of arson. Police cordoned off the scene, and an investigation is under way.

Over the past 24 hours, the Cyprus Fire Service received 34 calls: 18 were related to fires, 11 to assistance, and a further 5 turned out to be false alarms. Major fires also broke out in the Arsos area of Limassol and at a residential property in Paphos, where two people were taken to hospital after suffering smoke inhalation and minor burns.
