Cyprus Police warn of fraudulent SMS messages demanding payment of traffic fines
The Cyprus Police have recorded a wave of fraudulent messages spread via SMS and social networks. The scammers send fake notifications about alleged traffic violations and require recipients to follow links to urgently pay fines, thereby trying to steal money as well as citizens’ personal and banking data.
The law enforcement authorities have officially stated that the police never use SMS and messengers to send payment links. Citizens are urged to follow basic cybersecurity rules: it is strictly forbidden to click suspicious links and enter confidential information on unofficial resources, since the sole purpose of such messages is the unlawful withdrawal of funds.
