After 26 Years of Waiting, the Larnaca–Dekelia Road Opens

After 26 years of waiting, the new Larnaca — Dekelia road has opened to traffic. The project is considered one of the region’s largest infrastructure projects and is expected to significantly improve road safety, transport connections and the area’s appeal to tourists.

The third phase of the €14.8 million project includes around 3.25 km of the main road and 4.5 km of access roads. The new highway features four traffic lanes, a central median, modern pavements, cycle lanes, bus stops, parking bays and landscaped areas.

The project also included the construction of four roundabouts and 22 signal-controlled pedestrian crossings.

Construction began in September 2022. The main part of the road has been fully opened to traffic as far as the roundabout leading towards Pyla. Construction of the access roads and landscaping is scheduled to be completed by the end of October.

Representatives of the authorities and Larnaca’s business community believe that the new road will be an important factor in the region’s development, improve road safety and contribute to the continued growth of the tourism sector.
