Fire severely damages roof of residential building in Engomi, residents escape unharmed

A residential building caught fire in Engomi, near Nicosia: the blaze severely damaged the building’s roof, while the residents managed to get outside and were unharmed.

Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis said that three fully staffed crews from Nicosia fire stations were dispatched to the scene. The building is made of brick, and the flames spread across the roof.

The residents noticed the fire at an early stage and left the building without putting themselves at risk. By the time the incident was reported, the fire had not yet been fully extinguished: the crews continued working with the appropriate equipment to eliminate all remaining hotspots.

The cause of the fire will be determined after the blaze has been extinguished, provided that the condition of the building’s structures allows investigators to enter the site safely. The Fire Service expects further details as the situation develops.
