Fire breaks out in Paphos forest area near state forest boundaries

A major fire broke out on the evening of September 9 in a wooded area between the communities of Panagia (Panagia) and Vretsia (Vretsia) in the Paphos district. The alarm was raised shortly before 20:00, and significant ground forces from the Department of Forests were deployed to the scene.

The fire engulfed private plots in the Fonias area (Fonias), right on the boundary of the Paphos state forest. Because of this, and because the fire broke out in the evening hours, there is a risk that the flames could spread to the state forest.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established. It will be determined after the fire has been extinguished.

This is already the second fire in the Paphos district within 24 hours. During the day, a fire broke out in Episkopi (Episkopi), in the Moro Nero area (Moro Nero), near a residential area: the flames spread along the riverbed and an agricultural road. Five fire engines were dispatched to fight the fire, and its spread was prevented.
