Fire near Nicosia industrial zone: fire services working at the scene

A fire broke out in the area northwest of the Ergates industrial zone in Nicosia, prompting the mobilisation of significant resources for firefighting.

According to the Fire Service of the Republic of Cyprus, the fire spread through dry grass, wild vegetation and reeds in the riverbed.

Four fire engines with crews from Nicosia units arrived at the scene. Personnel from the Department of Forests, the Game and Fauna Service and volunteer organisations are also taking part in the operation.

Two bulldozers and a water tanker were deployed to assist the ground crews and prevent the fire from spreading further.

In addition, two firefighting aircraft are involved in the operation, while two more aerial assets have been placed on standby to reinforce the response.

The Fire Service continues to work at the scene and will provide further information on the progress of the firefighting operation.
