Firefighters rescue a person and extinguish two fires in one day
On Sunday, rescuers extracted an injured person from a cave in the Paralimni area and later extinguished two major fires in the districts of Larnaca and Famagusta.
The first call came in during the day. The injured person was found in a cave on a steep rocky area. Using special rescue equipment, they were evacuated, handed over to medics and taken to Famagusta General Hospital.
Late in the evening, a fire broke out near the municipal market in Livadia, close to the Larnaca — Ayia Napa highway. Dry grass, shrubs and reed thickets were burning. The fire damaged several temporary market stalls. Firefighters managed to remove gas cylinders, preventing the fire from spreading further.
Another fire occurred at night in Avgorou, where about 750 bales of hay burned.
The causes of both fires are being investigated.
