Cyprus government approves construction of new shopping centre in Limassol

The Government of the Republic of Cyprus has approved the construction of the new Limassol Mall shopping centre in Limassol, ending a years-long dispute between two competing projects. The second project — The Mall of Limassol — was not granted approval.

The new shopping centre will be built on a site next to the Jumbo hypermarket near the Agios Athanasios industrial area. The project will be developed by the Papantoniou group and a consortium of Cypriot companies that own Nicosia Mall, including the Zorbas, PHC Group, Athienitis Group and VLM Group groups.

According to Cypriot media reports, one of the key factors in the decision was progress on the project to renovate Agios Athanasios Avenue, which is expected to improve traffic conditions in the area of the future complex.

According to the plans, Limassol Mall will include around 90 shops, a five-screen cinema, an entertainment area, nine restaurants and cafés, a food court for 500 visitors, as well as parking for 1,270 cars. The complex will have a total area of more than 76,000 square metres.
