Cyprus President to Visit Kazakhstan on Official Trip for the First Time

President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides will make an official visit to Kazakhstan next week. The trip will be the first official visit by the head of the Cypriot state to the country in history and will be aimed at strengthening political and economic ties between the two states.

The President will travel to Astana on June 2 together with a delegation that will include government members and representatives of the business community. The flight will be carried out on the first direct air service between Cyprus and Kazakhstan.

The central event of the visit will be Christodoulides’ meeting with President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. After bilateral and expanded talks, the leaders will discuss prospects for cooperation in various areas. The head of the Cypriot state will also be awarded Kazakhstan’s state «Order of Friendship».

In the presence of the presidents, a number of memorandums of understanding are planned to be signed in the fields of higher education, scientific research, culture, sports, information technologies, cybersecurity and e-government. A separate agreement will be signed by the chambers of commerce and industry of the two countries.

As part of the visit, the President of Cyprus will take part in the Cyprus-Kazakhstan business forum, which will be held at the Astana International Financial Centre, and will also visit the Alem A.I. International Center for Artificial Intelligence.

Another important event will be the official opening of the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Astana. The ceremony will take place in the presence of representatives of Kazakhstan’s authorities and will mark a new stage in the development of diplomatic relations between the countries.

The visit is expected to contribute to the expansion of cooperation in the economy, investments, innovation and digital technologies. The presidential delegation will return to Cyprus on June 4.
