Lost christening cross found on Protaras beach and returned to its owner
On one of Protaras’s most popular beaches, a volunteer with a metal detector helped return to its owner a gold christening cross that had been lost during a holiday.
According to Lemesos Blog, Christodoulos and Andriani were relaxing on the beach when the man discovered that the cross was missing. He tried to find the piece of jewellery himself, but the search was unsuccessful.
He then asked the Cyprus Searchers’ Society for help. Its members assist people in finding lost belongings free of charge.
A volunteer named Christos began searching the area of the beach with the owner using a metal detector. After some time, the device detected the cross, which was buried beneath a layer of sand.
The find held special significance for the owner — in Cyprus, a christening cross is often kept for life and considered a personal family heirloom.
The searchers’ society noted that its volunteers help people on a voluntary basis and regard such cases as their social mission.
