Drunk crash in Pera Chorio: two hospitalized, one driver arrested
On Monday, 1 June 2026, at around 1:15 a.m., a head-on collision between two cars occurred in the village of Pera Chorio (Nicosia District). The cause of the accident was a 22-year-old driver who was driving under the influence of alcohol.
According to police, the young man lost control of the vehicle, crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with a car driven by a 41-year-old man. As a result of the powerful impact, both drivers were injured and were taken by ambulance to Nicosia General Hospital. After receiving first aid, the 41-year-old injured man was discharged, while the 22-year-old driver responsible for the crash was arrested: an alcohol test showed $108$ mcg% in exhaled air, compared with the legal limit of $22$ mcg% (almost five times over the limit). The Pera Chorio police station is continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
