A Register of Artists in Cyprus will be created by the end of 2026
Cyprus plans to officially enshrine the legal status of artists by the end of the year. The Deputy Minister of Culture told parliament that the ministry will present draft laws for the creation of a special Register and a new system of state support. The main innovation will be compensation of up to 30% of contributions to social and health insurance funds, but the measure will apply only to the self-employed, which has drawn criticism from trade unions.
The ministry is also preparing an agreement on the cultural village of Lemba near Paphos and is launching the «Nostos» program to preserve the memory of occupied communities. At the same time, MPs criticized delays in the reforms, pointing to a staff shortage at the Department of Antiquities and the long-delayed construction of archaeological museums in Nicosia and Limassol.
