Reform of swimming pool rules in Cyprus
The Cyprus Ministry of the Interior has put forward for consultation (until 6 July 2026) a bill updating the rules for swimming pools on the basis of the 2025 law. The aim is to speed up licensing and raise safety standards.
Main changes:
• Licences: issued for 3 years (renewal — €50, new licence — €100). They apply to public facilities and private pools with a building permit.
• Requirements: an electrical installations certificate (€70) and a health services certificate (€30) are mandatory. If a manager leaves their post, there are 2 months to appoint a replacement, otherwise the licence is revoked.
• Penalties: pool operations will be suspended if certificates have expired or if the health services declare a threat to public health.
• Sports pools (KOA): it is permitted to have one person responsible for safety, if all coaches on site hold lifeguard diplomas.
