Water Supply Reform in Larnaca: Major Projects Worth Millions of Euros Funded by Renewable Energy Savings

The Chair of the Larnaca District Self-Government Organization, Angelos Hatzicharalambous, announced the launch of a major modernization of the city and suburban infrastructure. A number of large-scale projects worth millions of euros are being implemented in the region, including the complete replacement of water supply networks, the construction of new bulky waste collection points (“green points”), and the installation of “smart” water meters. The head of the authority stressed that the organization managed to save a significant part of the funds for these investments thanks to the transition to its own renewable energy sources.

At present, the project to modernize the water supply system in Larnaca and Oroklini has reached the final stage of tender approval, after which practical implementation will begin. The cost of the pipe renewal works is estimated at approximately 3 million euros. The management of the relevant authority expects that a full replacement of outdated infrastructure will make it possible to radically solve the problem of hidden leaks, significantly reduce the volume of unaccounted water losses, and optimize utility expenses in the region.
