As of July 1, 2026, Cyprus will tighten rules for riding motorcycles on learner’s permits
The Cyprus Department of Road Transport has issued a notice introducing strict restrictions for holders of learner's permits for motorcycle riding, which will take effect on July 1, 2026. From now on, independent travel on public roads for this category of drivers will be completely prohibited.
Under the new rules, riding on a street or in any other public place will be allowed exclusively for educational purposes. At the same time, it will be mandatory for a licensed instructor to be constantly present and to follow the learner on a separate vehicle of the same class. This measure is aimed at strengthening control over the training process and reducing accident rates among novice riders.
