On 22 June 2026, Cyprus launched the state summer schools programme, expanded by decision of the Ministry of Education. This season, 71 institutions opened in all five districts of the country, ready to accept 9,200 children. The programme includes 64 regular summer schools (39 primary schools and 25 nursery schools) with 8,700 places, as well as 7 special summer schools for 500 pupils. Attendance is completely free of charge, while priority for enrolment is traditionally given to children from vulnerable groups. For students with a migrant background, the programme also includes advanced Greek language courses.

The regular summer schools will remain open until 24 July, while the special schools will operate until 31 July. The standard schedule is from 07:45 to 13:05, although working parents are offered the option of extending the day until 16:00. The morning programme is completely free of charge; parents only pay for meals for children staying for the extended day (in special schools, breakfast, lunch and transport are provided by the state). Qualified preschool, primary and special education teachers, as well as assistants to support children with special needs, have been brought into the educational process. The Minister of Education stressed the social importance of the project, aimed at year-round support for families and creating a safe, developmental environment for children during the holidays.
