Six people detained on suspicion of kidnapping a 20-year-old man

Police in the Famagusta area have detained six people on suspicion of kidnapping a 20-year-old man and demanding money under threats.

According to police, the incident was reported on 29 July. At around 19:20 that same day, the young man met with a group of people in one of the Famagusta area districts to discuss personal matters.

According to the victim’s statement, he was threatened and money was demanded during the meeting. He was then forced into a car and driven to an unknown location.

Several hours later, after midnight on 30 July, the man was released in one of the Famagusta area districts.

As a result of a joint operation involving the Famagusta Police Criminal Investigation Department, the Larnaca Unit for Combating Illegal Immigration and the Larnaca Police Operations Department, six suspects were detained.

The detainees include three 19-year-old men, as well as men aged 20, 26 and 27. They have all been remanded in custody pending an investigation.

Today, the detainees are expected to be brought before the Famagusta District Court, which will convene in Larnaca, to consider their further remand in custody.

The investigation is ongoing.
