Traffic fines in Cyprus will double after 90 days
Cyprus Parliament has approved amendments to the law aimed at improving driver discipline and speeding up the collection of traffic fine debts. Under the new rules, if an administrative traffic fine is not paid within 90 days from the date it is issued, the original amount will automatically double.
Authorities expect this tough measure to encourage offenders to settle their debts on time and reduce the number of court proceedings related to unpaid fines. The changes will apply to all standard traffic fines issued both by police officers and by automated speed cameras.
