According to fresh data from the Cyprus Consumer Protection Service, in May 2026 local residents faced another increase in the cost of everyday food products. A study covering weighted average prices for 250 key items across 400 retail outlets on the island showed that the most noticeable month-on-month price rise affected processed foods. The biggest increase compared with April was recorded for meat semi-finished products and sausages, which rose in price by 6.4% in a single month. In addition, a significant increase was recorded in the cost of vegetable oil, frozen fish and seafood, canned meat, coffee, eggs, baby food, flour, yogurt, soft drinks, laundry detergents and toilet paper.

On an annual basis (compared with May 2025), many of these consumer categories are showing double-digit growth, with the sharpest increase seen in baby food and laundry products. The only segment to offer temporary relief to shoppers was seasonal goods: prices for fresh vegetables and greens fell by 24.3% over the month. Nevertheless, even taking this seasonal decline into account, their current cost remains almost 25% above the level a year earlier.
