Road fatalities in Cyprus rose by 9.8% — EU report data
According to the 20th annual PIN report by the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC), Cyprus has dropped from 14th to 16th place in the European Union in terms of road fatalities. In 2025, the number of deaths on the island rose by 9.8% and reached 46 per million inhabitants, exceeding the European average of 43.
Despite the short-term deterioration in the statistics over the past year, Cyprus continues to show positive trends in the long term. From 2019 to 2025, road fatalities fell by 13.5%, and over the decade by 21.1%, which is slightly better than the EU average reduction rate of 20.2%.
In addition, Cyprus is showing solid progress in reducing injury rates. The number of serious injuries sustained in accidents between 2015 and 2025 decreased by 29.2%. This is the seventh-best result among the 24 EU countries that provided their statistical data for the report.
