The US and the UK have eased travel advice for their tourists visiting Cyprus

The authorities of the United States and the United Kingdom have officially lowered the risk level for their citizens planning trips to Cyprus. Previously, both countries had raised the island’s danger status to the third level (“reconsider your travel”) amid incidents involving drone attacks near the British military base in Akrotiri. The current update normalizes the safety assessment, separating the geopolitical situation in the Eastern Mediterranean from the situation in the tourist areas of the Republic of Cyprus.

The decision by London and Washington followed coordinated efforts by Cypriot diplomacy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which had previously secured similar easing of advice from nine European Union countries, including France, Italy and the Netherlands. For Cyprus’ tourism sector, which faced a noticeable drop in bookings at the start of the season, this move is a key factor in restoring its position. Hoteliers and tour operators expect demand from British and American travelers to pick up in the coming weeks.
