The United States has lowered the travel advisory for Cyprus to the lowest level
The U.S. Department of State has updated its advice for American travelers, returning Cyprus to the lowest, first level of risk («exercise normal precautions»).
Earlier, in March 2026, after a drone attack on a British military base and the temporary evacuation of Paphos Airport, the threat level for the island was urgently raised to the third level («reconsider travel»). Later it was lowered to the second, and now the American authorities have again officially recognized Cyprus as a safe destination, noting that the current risks here are lower than in France or Germany, where the second level is in force because of the threat of terrorist attacks.
At the same time, the department emphasized that the warning does not apply to the buffer zone and border areas. The U.S. Department of State’s standard recommendations also remain in force: enter the island only through the official ports and airports of the Republic of Cyprus (Larnaca, Paphos, Limassol). U.S. authorities remind their citizens that entry or exit through Ercan Airport (Ercan) or seaports in the north of the island are considered illegal by the Republic of Cyprus, which may lead to long-term problems and a ban on future entry.
