Old Paphos airport terminals planned for tourism development
Paphos AKEL MP Valentinos Fakontis asked the Minister of Transport about the future use of the old buildings of Paphos International Airport.
Fakontis asked whether options for using the former terminals more effectively are being considered together with the airport operator in order to strengthen the tourism potential of the region and the country as a whole.
In his response, Transport Minister Alexis Vafeadis noted that the operating company does not yet have a specific plan for the old departures building. The issue is expected to be considered when the terms of the new concession agreement are prepared in 2032.
As for the old arrivals building, the state has already decided to create a terminal there for private aviation and VIP passengers. However, despite the operator’s efforts to find an investor to use the premises, no agreement has been reached so far.
Fakontis said that such important facilities should not remain unused. According to him, their effective use could strengthen the tourism industry of Paphos and Cyprus as a whole.
The MP said he intends to raise the issue again in order to find a solution and speed up the process of putting the old airport facilities to use.
