Tourism statistics in Cyprus in 2026: declining figures and the search for new solutions

The first months of 2026 proved to be a difficult period for Cyprus’s tourism sector, as shown by statistics from the Statistical Service. In March 2026, the number of arrivals fell by 30.7% compared with the same month in 2025, amounting to 139,198 people versus 200,736 the previous year. For the first quarter of 2026, the total number of tourist arrivals stood at 407,339, which is below the figures for the same period in 2025, when the number reached 446,596.

April data also showed negative momentum: the number of arrivals amounted to 303,031, which is 27.6% lower than in April 2025. The final figure for the first four months of 2026 was recorded at 710,370 arrivals, reflecting a decline of 17.9% compared with the same period last year. Despite these figures, the Cypriot government is taking steps to diversify the market, including discussions on direct air links with India, while businesses in the tourism sector continue to receive state support in the form of subsidies.
