Crowds gathered in Troodos to watch the meteor shower

On Wednesday evening, large numbers of local residents and tourists gathered in the Troodos area to watch the Perseid meteor shower. The moonless sky created particularly favourable conditions for observation.

Queues of cars formed near the Amiantos Astrological Park, where two events were held, organised by the AstroVerce Astronomy Club together with the Cyprus Planetarium and the Nightsky Explorers club.

Those attending the observations arrived with warm clothes, blankets, chairs, food and drinks and spent the evening away from the city lights, watching the meteors. Some preferred a quieter format and headed to remote locations. Perseid observations were also held at the Troodos Observatory, in Kampos, Anglisides and near the Prodromos Reservoir.

The final event dedicated to observing the Perseids will take place today. The Planetarium and Kition Observatory will hold it at 19:00 at Softades Beach in Larnaca.
