33-year-old man shot at in Ayia Napa

Unknown assailants opened fire at a 33-year-old man’s car in the Kokkinies area of Ayia Napa on Friday morning. The driver himself was not injured, but the car was damaged.

The shooting took place at around 05:40. Police are considering several possible explanations for the incident. One of them is linked to the quadruple murder that took place in Ayia Napa in June 2016.

According to investigators, the victim is the brother of a man serving a life sentence for the crime. Police do not rule out the possibility that the attack was a warning or a message to the convicted prisoner.

Shortly after the shooting, a burned-out vehicle was found in an open area in Avgorou. Investigators are checking whether it was used by the attackers.

The crime scenes have been cordoned off. Police are examining surveillance camera footage and questioning local residents in search of information about the suspects.
