Motorcyclist hits police officer in Paralimni: drugs and alcohol found
In the Famagusta district, police arrested a 25-year-old motorcyclist for dangerous driving, possession of drugs and hitting a road police officer (EOMO). The incident took place near the Paralimni — Deryneia roundabout, when the rider, who was not wearing a helmet, ignored a stop signal, knocked down the police officer (who suffered an arm injury) and crashed into a parked car.
Results of the inspection and arrest:
• Findings and tests: a grinder with traces of cannabis was found under the motorcycle seat. The drug test came back positive. The breathalyzer recorded 21 mcg, compared with the limit of 9 mcg for this category.
• Consequences: the offender and the injured police officer were examined at the hospital and discharged. The motorcyclist was released pending trial, with his license temporarily suspended. The case is being handled by Paralimni police and YKAN drug enforcement.
