A redevelopment plan has been announced for the abandoned “Fishing Village” in Kato Paphos
Acting Paphos Mayor Angelos Onisiforou announced a plan for the complete restoration of the “Fishing Village” area in Kato Paphos. The site covers about 10,000 sq. m and includes buildings, green areas and a children’s playground, located near archaeological monuments. Over the past few years, the area has fallen into disrepair: the buildings have been vandalised, the infrastructure is unused, and rubbish has accumulated in the parks and on abandoned Turkish Cypriot plots, where homeless people are living. The local mosque is also in a state of neglect.
According to Onisiforou, the relevant authorities — the police, health and social welfare services, as well as the municipality itself — had not previously responded to citizens’ complaints. The announced comprehensive redevelopment plan includes sanitation cleanup of the area, increased police patrols, social support and the restoration of vacant buildings. The acting mayor called on all interested parties to mobilise immediately to restore order.
