In the Lakatamia area, a series of attacks on domestic animals continues. According to local residents, an unknown person is shooting at cats with an air gun, and the police, despite numerous complaints, have still not managed to stop the offender.

Local resident Irene Sidiropoulou said that over the past few years, three of her cats have been victims. Two died of blood poisoning after gunshot wounds, while a third survived after a complicated operation. According to her, all the attacks took place right in the yard of her home.

The woman claims that she repeatedly contacted the animal protection police, but was not always able to get through. After a personal appeal, she was told that without eyewitnesses it was impossible to bring the perpetrator to justice. At the same time, Sidiropoulou claims, officers admitted that they also know about other similar cases in the area.

According to residents, the unknown person shoots at animals from the street using an air gun. Not only cats, but dogs have also been injured. Some owners found several pellets in their pets' bodies at once.

Animal rights activists call the situation alarming. Volunteer Vasiliki Mani created a special Facebook group where she collects information about all such cases, hoping to draw the authorities' attention and добиться an investigation.

According to official data from the Cyprus police, 286 cases of animal cruelty have been recorded since 2021. However, activists are convinced that the real number of such crimes is significantly higher.
