Renovated Pattichio Park opens in Larnaca

The renovated Pattichio Municipal Park in Larnaca has opened to visitors after an eight-month delay and changes to the original project. The park is considered the largest in the city by area. Its renovation cost more than €5 million, and construction work began in October 2023. The project was revised after local residents protested against the large amount of concrete paving. The Larnaca Municipality said that the reconstruction focused primarily on preserving the natural landscape and the park’s connection with the salt lake’s wetlands.

A circular elevated pedestrian path around the existing amphitheatre, new walking and cycling routes, viewing platforms, a café-restaurant, a children’s play area and a botanical garden with aromatic plants have been added to the park. Event spaces have also been created, new signs and information boards installed, and additional plants planted. The entrances and pedestrian paths were upgraded, the lighting was replaced, new street furniture was installed and the fencing was repaired. The park has been made more accessible to pedestrians, cyclists and people with disabilities.

In addition, new parking spaces and sanitary facilities have been added. Vehicle access to the site is restricted and controlled, mainly for servicing the amphitheatre. The nearby Pattichio amphitheatre was also recently renovated: new seats were installed, while site security was strengthened with round-the-clock guards and patrols.

According to Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras, visitors’ initial feedback on the park has been generally positive. The official opening of the facility is planned for the autumn, tentatively in October or November.

The project was implemented under the cohesion policy programme «Thalia 2021–2027» with co-financing from the European Union.
