Student kidnapped in Larnaca and ransom demanded

The Cyprus Police have been searching for a 22-year-old student from Bangladesh for the second week after he went missing on 12 June on his way to work from Oroklini to Kofinou. Soon after his disappearance, the young man’s father received messages demanding a ransom of 35,000 euros. The criminals are threatening to kill the hostage or cut out his kidney if the family contacts law enforcement.

The last signal from the missing man’s phone was detected in the Kofinou area, and the device is currently switched off. The authorities are checking surveillance cameras and do not rule out the possibility that the young man may have been taken illegally to the northern part of the island. The police have released a description of the foreigner (height 1.80 m, average build, black hair) and are asking the public to share any information by calling 24804096 or 1460.
