Small turtles spotted heading towards the sea in Larnaca

On Sunday, baby sea turtles were spotted at Pervolia Beach in Larnaca, heading from the shore towards the water. A video of the small turtles was published by Sanida Club. The footage shows the hatchlings crossing the shore and moving towards the sea. The sea turtle nesting season is currently under way in Cyprus. The island’s beaches are important breeding sites for two species — loggerhead and green sea turtles.

During the nesting season, nesting sites are monitored, while special measures are taken to protect the nests and hatchlings. The journey from the nest to the sea is considered one of the most vulnerable stages in a turtle’s life.
