Construction of €95 million shopping centre discussed in Limassol
The decision by the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Cyprus to approve the construction of Limassol Mall has prompted a strong reaction in Limassol.
The project, worth approximately €95 million, is planned for the Agios Athanasios area, opposite the Jumbo store. Despite expectations linked to investment and the creation of new retail facilities, local authorities, business owners and shopkeepers have expressed concern about the possible consequences.
Critics of the project warn that the new shopping centre could worsen traffic problems in the area and negatively affect the operation of existing shops in the city.
The Council of Ministers previously approved, by way of exception, one of two applications for the construction of new shopping centres that were planned a short distance from each other. Both projects received environmental approval, but permission was granted only for Limassol Mall.
