A 25-year-old swimmer rescued in Limassol
At around 17:30 on 15 August, rescuers assisted a 25-year-old man who began to drown in the sea off Limassol. The incident occurred in the LEM 0 area opposite the zoo. The man was trying to get from the rocks to the shore, but he felt unconfident in the water and quickly lost his strength.
Rescuers who noticed him in a dangerous situation immediately headed towards him on a rescue board. People who were approximately 20 metres from the scene also tried to help. The man was safely brought ashore, where he received first aid. No further medical assistance was required, and he did not need to be hospitalised.
During the incident, the man panicked and grabbed his wife, who was nearby, putting her at risk as well. Rescuers noted that such actions can result in two people finding themselves in danger at the same time. The Limassol Rescue Service urged holidaymakers not to enter the water in dangerous areas, especially near rocks, without adequate swimming skills, and to take currents and wind into account.
