An important road near the Constanza Bastion in Nicosia has been closed until December
The Municipality of Nicosia has announced the start of a new large-scale phase of the Old City reconstruction, which will significantly change traffic patterns in the center of the capital. From June 4, strict traffic restrictions will come into force and will remain in place until December of this year.
The restrictions are being introduced as part of the project to modernize the inner perimeter of the fortress moat. The new phase of works (section A4) will affect the eastern part of Konstantin Palaiologos Avenue — from Archbishop Makarios II Square (Kolokasi junction) to the entrance to the municipal parking area near the Constanza Bastion. This section of the road will be completely closed to general traffic. Only emergency services and local residents with special permits will be able to enter the closed zone.
City authorities warn drivers of inevitable congestion during peak hours and urge them to plan alternative routes in advance, following temporary diversion signs. The large-scale project to revive the historic center includes not only the replacement of the road surface and the installation of new underground utilities, but also the renovation of the facades of adjacent buildings.
