A new cycling and pedestrian route along the Pedieos River has opened in Nicosia

A new eco-friendly cycling and pedestrian route running along the Pedieos River bed has officially been put into service in Nicosia. The project is aimed at developing the city’s green infrastructure and creating alternative transport links between the capital’s districts.

The new route, several kilometers long, is equipped with separate lanes for pedestrians and cyclists, modern energy-efficient lighting, rest areas and drinking fountains. The route has been integrated into the existing network of city parks, providing local residents with safe movement away from busy roads. Along the entire route, specialists carried out additional landscaping, planting hundreds of endemic trees and shrubs adapted to the local climate.

The project was implemented with financial support from European structural funds for regional development. Municipal authorities emphasized that the new linear park along the Pedieos will not only expand opportunities for sports and active recreation, but will also become an important step in reducing the city’s carbon footprint by connecting residential neighborhoods with the central part of Nicosia.
