Burglary Rates Drop in Nicosia

In August, Nicosia has seen a decrease in burglaries. Traditionally, August is a peak month for such crimes because the city empties out as residents go on vacation or head to other parts of the country for beach holidays.

According to a report published by Philenews, citing the police, the number of burglaries this August has decreased despite the usual seasonal spike.

Cyprus police confirmed that in the first 20 days of August, there were only 13 reported burglaries, most of which occurred on the outskirts of Nicosia.

Overall, there have been 150 home break-ins in the capital during the first seven and a half months of 2024.

“If the average number of break-ins per month is 20, the year could end with a total of 240 break-ins,” the report noted.

In comparison, 393 burglaries were recorded in Nicosia throughout 2022, with a 30% increase in 2023.
