Two young men detained in Nicosia over possession of nearly a kilogram of cannabis
Cyprus police have arrested two men aged 23 and 24 as part of an investigation into the unlawful possession of narcotics. The operation was carried out yesterday in Nicosia by officers from the Anti-Narcotics Service.
According to law enforcement, the search was conducted in the basement of the house where the 23-year-old suspect lives. The search was carried out under a court warrant. During the inspection, police found 965 grams of dry plant material, allegedly cannabis, as well as electronic scales.
The search took place in the presence of both suspects. After the drugs were discovered, the men were arrested at the scene on suspicion of committing an offence.
During initial questioning, the detained men made a number of statements that are now being checked by investigators. Police are not disclosing any additional details of the investigation.
Both suspects remain in custody. They are expected to be taken to Nicosia District Court in the morning, where the issue of a preventive detention order will be considered.
The investigation continues and is being handled by the Cyprus Police Anti-Narcotics Service.
