Old stadium in Paphos proposed for conversion into sports centre

Sports and community organisations in Paphos have developed a plan to restore the old municipal G.S. Koroivos stadium and turn it into a modern sports centre accessible to all residents.

The stadium is currently used mainly by the two schools located nearby. The proposed project would open the site to a wider range of residents and create a fully equipped space for sports activities.

According to representatives of sports and community organisations, Paphos lacks sports infrastructure. The area has only one sports hall with basic modern facilities, there are no tennis courts, and the only football pitch is effectively unavailable for recreational use.

The proposal is to create a municipal sports centre on the site of the old stadium in the city centre. It could include tennis and basketball courts, a football pitch that could be divided into several smaller pitches, an athletics track around the perimeter and a small café.

The project’s initiators note that implementing these plans would not require significant expenditure from the municipality or the state.

They say that the stadium’s central location in Paphos would allow it to be used not only by schoolchildren but also by a large number of residents, while helping to revitalise the city centre.
