150 kg of EAC cables found in Paphos as police investigate possible theft
Police discovered 150 kg of cables used exclusively by the Cyprus Electricity Authority (EAC) at two metal collection and recycling sites in Paphos.
The cables were seized as evidence. At one of the sites, police found 50 kg of shredded cables, while a further 100 kg of the same type was found at the second site.
The owners of the two sites are Syrian nationals residing in Paphos. They were arrested and formally charged in writing before being released pending a further court summons.
Police are establishing the origin of the cables and investigating whether the detainees may be linked to the thefts. According to law enforcement authorities, similar cable thefts had previously been recorded in the Paphos district.
The operation was carried out as part of efforts to combat the illegal trafficking and sale of metals. The investigation is ongoing.
