Paphos Plans Harbour Modernisation and Cruise Ship Berth
The Municipality of Paphos and the Cyprus Ports Authority discussed the large-scale modernisation of Kato Paphos harbour. The project aims to develop tourism infrastructure while preserving the historic character of the area.
Among the proposals are widening the harbour entrance and extending the breakwater beyond the medieval castle. According to the authorities, this would provide better protection for both the historic monument and the port infrastructure.
The construction of a 40–50-metre berth, which would allow larger cruise ships to dock, is also being considered. This is expected to have a positive impact on tourist numbers and the local economy.
In addition, the participants discussed creating a separate refuelling point for commercial and private vessels, which should improve the safety and efficiency of harbour operations.
