Vandals damage 7–8 shops in Paphos

Unknown masked individuals damaged the windows of seven or eight shops in Paphos overnight on Saturday. Police are investigating the incident. The perpetrators smashed the glass shopfronts. It has not yet been established whether anything was stolen from the damaged shops.

Police initially received information that a pharmacy and a café in the Tala area had been damaged. It later emerged that vandals had also damaged other businesses. Police officers, together with the shop owners, are documenting all the locations where damage was caused and examining CCTV footage. Identifying the attackers is complicated by the fact that they were wearing masks.

The vandalism occurred several hours after a police operation in the area. The operation was carried out following an incident on Tuesday, when a group of people allegedly attacked food delivery workers. As a result, five people were taken to hospital, and two men, aged 35 and 22, were arrested.

Police are checking whether the damage to the shops could be linked to the earlier operation. However, no definitive conclusions have yet been reached regarding the perpetrators’ motives or identities.
