28-year-old driver arrested in Paphos in stolen car
Police in the Paphos area arrested a 28-year-old man who was found behind the wheel of a car reported stolen several hours earlier.
According to police, the car was stolen around noon, and after the report was filed, law enforcement officers spotted it in one of the communities in the Paphos district. The driver failed to stop when ordered to do so by police and attempted to flee.
During the pursuit, he made dangerous manoeuvres, collided with another vehicle, then lost control and crashed into a roadside barrier. After the car stopped, the man attempted to escape on foot and resisted arrest, also assaulting one of the police officers.
A preliminary test returned a positive result for drugs. The alcohol test was negative. Police also reported that a warning shot was fired into the air during the pursuit.
The investigation is continuing.
