Hotel employee arrested in Paphos on suspicion of stealing jewellery

Police in Paphos have arrested a hotel employee on suspicion of stealing two pieces of jewellery worth around €1 000 from a guest’s room. The hotel management reported the incident to police after a woman staying at the hotel reported that jewellery had gone missing from her room.

During the investigation, police obtained information suggesting that the employee may have been involved in the theft. It also emerged that she had an access card allowing her to open all the hotel rooms. However, the room from which the jewellery disappeared was not in the area she was supposed to clean. According to police, during questioning the employee admitted that she had entered the room and taken the jewellery.

She was arrested under a court warrant and remanded in custody. On Thursday, she is expected to be charged at the Paphos District Court, after which she will be summoned to appear in court at a later date.
