American destroyer USS Arleigh Burke arrives in Limassol port
The American guided-missile destroyer USS Arleigh Burke (DDG-51) arrived at the port of Limassol after several months of operations at sea related to ensuring the security of the United States and Cyprus.
According to the U.S. Embassy in Cyprus, the ship’s visit coincided with the celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States. The diplomatic mission thanked Cyprus for its hospitality and emphasized the high level of cooperation between the two countries in the field of security.
USS Arleigh Burke is the lead ship of the destroyer class of the same name and is part of the U.S. Navy’s 6th Fleet. It is permanently based in the Spanish city of Rota.
The ship is about 154 meters long, is equipped with the modern Aegis combat system, and has a crew of about 300 sailors.
The destroyer’s visit is taking place as part of regular calls by American warships to Cypriot ports aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and naval interaction in the Eastern Mediterranean.
