A new roundabout opened in Protaras for €596,000: what will change for drivers
A new roundabout at the junction of Cavo Greco Avenue and Tali Street has been officially opened in Protaras. The project, costing €596,000 excluding VAT, included the roundabout itself, pavements, a cycle lane, a regulated pedestrian crossing, lighting and signage. The facility was built over seven months from the signing of the contract in November 2025, and traffic was opened at the beginning of June, just in time for Kataklysmos.
The allocated budget of half a million euros for road infrastructure is minimal. Such a low cost and the speed of the works show that the project is of the simplest possible nature. The builders managed without major changes to the geometry of the streets or the relocation of complex underground utilities, aiming to complete the project strictly by the start of the tourist season.
The authorities' claims that the congestion problem across the entire resort area has been solved appear to be a blatant exaggeration and political PR. One small roundabout can only organise traffic flow and eliminate dangerous turns at a specific spot. It will not be able to ease traffic throughout Protaras, since the rest of the city's road network remains unchanged.
