Venus and Jupiter Converge in the Evening Sky Over Cyprus
A rare and beautiful astronomical phenomenon can be observed in the sky above the island — the conjunction of Venus and Jupiter. The two brightest planets in the Solar System have come as close as possible, creating the illusion of a single powerful source of light.
According to specialists, the unique cosmic duo is visible to the naked eye in the western and northwestern part of the sky. It is best to start observing 40–50 minutes after sunset, when the sky has darkened sufficiently. Venus stands out as the brighter object, while the slightly dimmer Jupiter is located nearby. For the best view, it is recommended to choose open areas where the horizon is not blocked by buildings. In addition to this pair, Mars and Mercury can also currently be seen in the night sky.
This event opens a series of bright astronomical phenomena this summer. Island residents can also look forward to three summer full moons (at the end of June, July and August) and the traditional August Perseid meteor shower, which will peak on 12 August.
