Renewable energy share in Cyprus reached 36.8% in June

Renewable energy sources accounted for 36.8% of net electricity generation in Cyprus in June 2026. The data was published on Friday by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.

The monthly trend in the second quarter was as follows: the share of renewable sources stood at 34.66% in April, 36.84% in May and 36.80% in June. In July, it fell to 29.98%.

Across the European Union as a whole, renewable sources accounted for 54.1% of electricity generation in the second quarter of 2026, compared with 54.3% in the same period last year. Solar power contributed the most, accounting for 41.6% of all renewable generation, followed by wind at 27.7%, hydropower at 22.6%, biofuels at 7.7%, and geothermal energy together with other sources at 0.4%.

The gap between EU countries remains wide. Latvia had the highest share at 97.7%, followed by Denmark (94.3%) and Croatia (92.2%). Slovakia (19.8%), Czechia (20.9%) and Malta (24.5%) had the lowest shares.
