Cyprus authorities increase irrigation water allocation by 3.5 million cubic meters

The government of Cyprus has decided to allocate an additional 3.5 million cubic meters of water for agricultural needs from state reservoirs. This emergency step is aimed at supporting farmers during a prolonged drought and extremely high temperatures.
The allocated volume will be distributed among the island’s main agricultural regions for irrigating perennial plantations and seasonal crops. The Water Development Department emphasizes that this measure is a forced compromise in conditions of depleted water reserves, so farmers are urged to use water resources as sparingly and efficiently as possible, employing modern drip irrigation systems. The situation with dam levels remains under strict specialist monitoring.
