Eight detained and 30 drunk drivers: results of Cyprus police overnight raids

On the night of July 5, the Republic of Cyprus police carried out large-scale preventive raids across the island. The main objective of the operations was to prevent crime, maintain public order and increase public safety.

During the checks, eight people were detained. They are suspected of various offenses, including illegal possession of drugs, driving under the influence of alcohol and illegal stay in the country.

Over the night, police officers stopped 511 vehicles for inspection and checked 652 drivers and passengers. Inspections were also carried out at 58 premises, resulting in eight administrative reports.

During traffic raids, 329 traffic violations were detected. Drivers most often exceeded the speed limit — 96 such cases were recorded.

In addition, police conducted 291 alcohol tests. The test was positive for 30 drivers. Ten preliminary drug tests were also carried out, six of which came back positive.

As part of the investigations, police also impounded 22 vehicles.
